Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. When hydrogen fuel is used to power transportation and industry, the only byproduct left behind is pure water, unlike hydrocarbon fuels that release carbon dioxide and other contaminants into the atmosphere when used.

The problem? Nearly all hydrogen today is procured through steam methane reforming (SMR), a capital-intensive process that emits carbon dioxide and other harmful pollutants.
